New Years in New York and Nashville

by on Sunday, January 1st, 2017

So, we stayed up late last night to celebrate the New Year. This is the first time we did not go out and join a party somewhere. We had thought about going downtown last night, but it has been cold and raining all day and that just kind of killed the mood.

Ended up watching the ball drop in New York City. Watched Beyonce with her technical problems and walk off the stage. As big a production as New Year’s Eve is, I can’t believe they had a problem with the audio. Someone should get fired over that.

The rest of the show was predictable, although it is still weird to me to know that NYC celebrates midnight a full hour before we do because we are in Central Time. So, in a way, we celebrate midnight twice – watching NYC at their midnight and then still partying for an hour so we can celebrate it again at our midnight.

Totally Recommend Lincoln – The Movie

by on Friday, January 18th, 2013

If you are up for going to the theater to see a movie on the big screen, I totally recommend Lincoln – the Movie. This is one of the best two and a half hours you can spend in a theater. The cast and crew are up for all kinds of nominations and they are all worthy of the awards they will surely receive.

Daniel Day Lewis looks, walks and talks like Abraham Lincoln. You might know deep down that he is Daniel Day Lewis – from Last of the Mohicans and other great movies – but when you first see Lincoln in this movie you believe 100% that you are watching Lincoln.

Sally Fields is great as his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. Tommy Lee Jones, David Strathaim, James Spader, Hal Holbrook – an all star cast that nailed their roles and made this movie a classic for generations to come.

Its not about the assassination – its about politics and ending the civil War. Great movie – I can’t say that enough!

NFL Playoffs – or Not?

by on Sunday, January 13th, 2013

Today is the day that key football teams will find out if they are contenders in this year’s Super Bowl or not. My team folded a long time ago – they started out losing and never really caught up to get a wild card chance of playing. So most of us are watching to see if the teams we hate will lose, and which of the teams that are left on the field might be worthy of us cheering for them.

My own picks for who will play in the Super Bowl are the San Francisco 49’ers and the Baltimore Ravens. I’m not saying that I like either of those teams, I’m just picking them out of the rest of the teams still in the running as being able to pull off enough wins to make it to the Bowl. In a way, I hope my picks don’t prove true, because I don’t like either team. In fact, I despise the Ravens and think they are nothing but a bunch of overpaid thugs.

But, we’ll see by morning if my picks are still on track.

Zombies and Vampires

by on Sunday, October 7th, 2012

Took a quick walk through the toy department at Target and was impressed at the sudden presence of toy monsters. It seems like every toy line has a zombie or vampire version. Even the Barbie dolls have a Twilight Vampires line based on the hit movie series. Other dolls include “Monster High” fashion dolls. There are even monster legos sets – a whole series of ghosts, vampires, Frankensteins and mad scientists.

I wonder why everyone has such a fascination with zombies lately? There are zombie walks happening all over the world. I saw some photos of a zombie walk held in Canada – they were some freaky people in that parade, let me tell you! We are having a zombie walk here later this month. Downtown will be full of creepy people staggering around on the sidewalks – and not just tourists this time.

New Car Clearance

by on Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

Ads for the cars dealerships around here have really increased this month. It is the end of the model year and they are desperate to get rid of all the 2012 year mode inventory and make room for the new 2013 model years cars and trucks.

The TV models are almost always local girls who are pretty but have very little training on how to walk and talk at the same time for a dealership ad.. As long as they have a pretty face and big tits, they get on the air.

The next model years cars are not all that promising I haven’t seen any news from car shows about any big improvements or new concepts. Even the hybrid models are not selling as well as hoped. Its partly the blame of the manufacturers but I think it is also a reflection of the bad economy. People just can’t risk taking on a new car loan for $20K when they don’t have a good, full time job or their job is in jeopardy.

Once this economy starts getting better, we should see a pent up demand for new cars. They just have to wait a while longer – we should see things changing after the elections – one way or another.
