Pontoon Boats for River Fun

by on Saturday, September 17th, 2016

I really want a boat. There is a nice river nearby for all kinds of water fun, but a lot of people keep telling me that a boat is a hole in the water you pour money into. I don’t think that way. I look at it as an investment in living a life outside of the work, home, work, home, work, home grind.

What is the point of working if that is all you do. The time has come to get out of the house and DO something. I like to fish and so does the wife. So far we can only do that from the bank of the river and have to deal with tons of mosquitoes during the warm months. If you are on the water itself, it is so much better.

I just have to decide if I want a pontoon party style boat or a ski style boat. It has to be larger than a john boat because the wakes cause by the larger boats will swamp you on the weekends out on the river itself. I don’t want to be stuck in the back water ways and if it is larger, than we can take friends and family out with us. That right there is a great reason for a pontoon. Especially if it has all the amenities, like a BBQ grill and such. Some pontoons you can even ski behind or at least pull one of those big floats. I am thinking a pontoon might just be the way to go.

News and the World

Watching the news and seeing the insane weather and various natural disasters that have been happening with great frequency is a bit scary. I am thankful that I live in a place that has very little of any of them. The earth quakes and volcanic eruptions along the pacific rim have been really devastating, and you couldn’t pay me enough to live in any of those areas. If I had been born there, I would leave any way possible. It’s just nuts !

Add to that the storms that seem to be stronger each year or perhaps we just didn’t hear about them as much before. That is probably it now that I think about it. With the internet, we hear about so much that we never did before that it amazes and scares us when we do. The world is connected now and news travels at the speed of light it seems. No matter what happens we have it all at the tips of our fingers and the reporters have a difficult time deciding what to show us as there is so much more now to see. I definitely do not envy them their jobs.

Grilling Steaks

by on Thursday, May 17th, 2012

This new gas grill that I bought last year on the end of summer sale is coming in really handy lately. The grill works like a charm. since I bought it on clearance, it was already put together and I didn’t have to do anything but push it out to the parking lot and load it in my trunk.

Tonight I am grilling some pretty New York Strip steaks that i bought at the Kroger grocery store. The steaks are on sale this week and it was too good of a deal to pass up. I wish that fresh corn on the cob was in season. That would go really well with these steaks. But corn around here still needs a couple of weeks to be ready for picking.

Vacation Plans

Summer is just around the corner – in fact some people say that it is already here because it has been so hot. Usually I try to take a week’s vacation and go to the beach in the summer. It is a long drive to any beach and there are not cheap flights to any of them. So it takes some planning and some sacrifice to make it happen.

This year i am thinking about driving the 10 hours south to the Gulf of Mexico. I think the oil spill has pretty much stopped being a problem and that the beaches and seafood along the Florida and Alabama coastlines are safe and clean again. Hope so, anyway.

Neighborhood Wildlife

Last Wednesday night I was out late and got home late. But i had to put the trash up at the curb for the trash collection on Thursday morning. So I took care of a few things and right before bed I put on my shit kickers and stepped outside to get the trash can pushed down the driveway to the curb. But when I stepped out on the porch, I saw something move across the yard. By the time I realized what it was it had run across my neighbor’s yard and disappeared down the street. It was a huge red fox with a very bushy tail. I am sure it was a fox – that bushy tail was a dead give-away.

That makes the second fox I’ve seen in my yard. The last time it was a grey fox. The grey fox was a little bigger than the red fox. At first I thought it was a coyote, but then I saw its very bushy tail and knew that coyotes do not have tails like that. It was pretty cool to see these wild creatures running through my neighborhood. If I hadn’t seen them with my own eyes late at night I would never have known that they are even here.
