BBQ time

by on Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

I love that the weather has gotten so nice. BBQ season has come early this year and I am preparing for it as we speak. I have already filled the tanks for the grill and bought new cooking utensils for it as well. I dug out the smoker and cleaned it up. I have to pick up some wood chips for it, but that is easy. We are fixing up our patio and the backyard areas where we entertain and due to such good weather it will be blooming soon enough with flowers everywhere.

We will probably plan our first BBQ for next weekend. My wife has shopping to do as well as check everyone’s schedules to make sure they can attend. I am sure that it wont be a problem though, because everyone is ready for winter to be gone for good and the outdoor fun to begin. It is still just a bit too cool at night to bother with the pool yet. When the weather gets to the right point, we will open up the pool and ready it for summer. We haven’t decided if we want new patio furniture yet or not. I suppose we shall see. I am sure that my wife will come across something she likes soon enough.

Home Depot

by on Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

Home depot is the man place. It is our favorite place to spend money on tools and various other implements to make life and home repair easier. Like every other man I know, I love to shop a Home Depot. I have a few things to buy today to replace old equipment I use for my garden. I need a new tiller and hand tools as well. I am also thinking about buying a new mower. If I buy one that I can attach a tiller to it, that will make things much easier and I can enlarge the garden like I want to.

My garden is already large, but as I want to add a few new veggies to the planting, I am going to have to add more rows as well. I also need to buy some organic garden soil to add to my garden beds. We do not like pesticides either so we use other methods to keep posts off of our plants. My list is growing as I type and realize there were a few things I had forgotten. No matter though, if I forget something I will just go back. I wish everyone luck with their own gardens this year.

Tulips

by on Saturday, March 3rd, 2012

The one thing I absolutely love about spring is the Tulips. The various colors and such are a breath taking sight to behold. I know that not many men appreciate flowers as I do, but I cannot help but to love their sight and smells. I enjoy gardening and plant both flowers and vegetables in my gardens. I like the old fashioned feel of the soil in through my fingers. It is as if I can absorb the energy of the earth. Well, that is what my wife tells me that it is anyway. Personally, I just enjoy it.

I am going to plant the usual vegetables this year as well as a bit more squash. I have found that I like a lot of different kinds of squash than I did when I was younger. Spaghetti squash is one of them, as well as acorn squash. They are so very easy to make and taste so good when they are seasoned right.  My wife, the wonderful cook that she is, can make whatever I plant in our garden and it is always very good. The best cooked food is that which is grown at home. Remember that always and plant a garden. It will make you happy.

Leap year

by on Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

Tomorrow is leap year day. We get an extra day this year to frolic or work one. I will probably be working on the house. I am quite sure I didn’t need and extra day to do that. Really I could have gone without a whole extra day of chores. No matter though, I will persevere, and the wifey will be happy. I have my honey do list all ready for tomorrow. I have to clean out the garage, the gutters, the flower beds and the garden patch in preparation for planting. Oh fun.

I think my wife would make a really good warden in a prison. It would be the prettiest prison as well as the most productive. She would probably grow all of their food right their on the prison grounds and turn it into a working farm. Don’t tell her I said that though, she would kill me. I will get it all finished though I am not worried about that, but I am going to be one tired man by the time I am done. It will be worth it though as I will have everything in perfect readiness for spring planting and wont have to worry about finding anything I need. I have to run to Home Depot and pick up some yard bags and such now.

Hunting

by on Saturday, February 18th, 2012

I am not sure if I want to go hunting or not. My brother in law is an avid hunter and always wants me to go with him. I like to eat the deer and hog that he brings back, but I am not sure that I can actually kill something like that. Unfortunately for me, I have seen Bambi too many times. The thought of having to dress out and skin the deer is actually worse than the thought of killing it. That is just kind of gross to me, having to gut it and pull out the entrails. Yuck!

I have a feeling though that I will end up going just to get him to stop asking. Like he always says, maybe I will like it in the end. You never can tell. I know that my wife would love to have the meat, since she grew up on it herself. It is one of those American things. Don’t get me wrong the Spanish hunt as well, but not like the Americans. We generally are just farmers and such, but there are families like mine that were tradesman and didn’t have anything to do with stuff like that. Which is why I am the way I am about it.
