Who Gets a New Car for Christmas?

by on Friday, December 28th, 2012

All month long we have been forced to watch car commercials suggesting that giving someone a brand new luxury car is the perfect Christmas gift. Now, I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to spend that kind of money on a fucking Christmas present, I don’t care how hot the bitch might be. I can see spending a couple grand on something like diamonds or a vacation to someplace exotic. But i’m not dropping fifty grand on a new car for a woman as a Christmas gift.

For another thing, I think that is kind of cheesy. You should buy a car because you need a car and its time to buy a new one, regardless of whether it is Christmas or anniversary or whatever. Buying a car should be for the sake of buying a car. Giving a gift should be something unrelated to a basic necessity like daily transportation.

Do you know anyone who gave a car or got a car as a Christmas gift – ever? I would really like to know how many people think that is OK and actually do it.

Good City Fireworks Show Last Night

by on Thursday, July 5th, 2012

There was a pretty good fireworks show downtown last night. The Fourth of July is always a big deal around here – rednecks just love the chance to buy fireworks from the tent stands that pop up all over the state the last two weeks of June. I know guys who save up all year just waiting for the chance to buy fireworks and stock up.

The city always has a free concert on the riverbank for several hours with the Nashville Symphony and a handful of B Circuit singers to entertain the crowd that gathers for the free fireworks show at dark. It’s an expensive treat for the city to be spending money on in this bad economy, but it is a tradition and we southerners are pretty big on keeping our traditions going every year.

Steer Clear of the Mall

by on Saturday, December 10th, 2011

This weekend there will be too many Christmas shoppers out there for me to go to the mall – or any store that I don’t have to go to. I hate shopping and I hate crowds even worse. There is nothing I need so badly that I can’t wait a couple of days and go buy it during the week. This weekend and next are for Christmas shoppers – not for me.

Birthday Wishes to Connie

by on Friday, June 10th, 2011

My friend and co-worker, Connie, is celebrating her big 4-0 birthday this weekend! Around here we tease people about the big ones with little rhymes: “Lordy, Lordy, Look who’s turning Forty!” I said that to her this morning when she came into work, and she turned beet red! LOL
