We lost our electricity at home so many times this summer due to severe thunderstorms that I decided to stock up on flashlights and candles. It was getting to be a real nuisance not having any lights on, sometimes for almost an entire day.

I had no idea there were so many types of flashlight out there and what a wide range of prices there are. I bought a variety of different ones. We are having an informal test and comparison of the different flashlights. It will be interesting to see which ones out the winner and worth buying more.

I hear from people all the time that say i can not afford a blog because of the cost of the domain , blogging software and hosting costs or even the content. I always smile when I hear this because there are plenty of free blogging websites out there that do not require your or me to pay a dime or penny to use them to store your thoughts ideas or rants, lol. Design Flaws

Thee are big words for all these engineering concepts, but i’ll stick with “user friendly.” Have you ever noticed that some things might look good, work well, be completely functional – and yet they are not user friendly?

For example, architects are predominantly male and not may men do laundry for their household – especially since they are working every day earning a living. Therefore, they have very little regard or concern for the person who has to actually trudge up and down a flight a stairs with heavy and bulky baskets of dirty clothes, sometimes daily, to use the laundry equipment that is located in the basement. If they had any concern for making a house plan efficient and user friendly, they would find a way to locate the laundry near the bedrooms and the bathrooms, where people naturally remove their clothes.

I seem this same callous disregard for the person who has to use a product or a feature all the time. What examples have you noticed?

Band Rehearsal

My father was in a band and this is what I grew up with. We had band rehearsal in our living room at least once a week for years on end. Sometimes they had rehearsal for 3 days in a row. All the guys in the band were like uncles to me – part of the family.
